6:30-8:30 p.m. Central Time
on Zoom!

The goal of the Building Intercultural Competence for Ministers (BICM) training is to increase the capacity to welcome, receive and encourage all emerging cultural groups to participate and assume leadership roles in the Church. The hope is that, in turn, the participant will train others to do the same.

The sessions provide an opportunity for ministers to attain a foundational level of competence in intercultural relations and communications. It is also designed to orient trainers to methodology, strategies, and activities suited to teach the content of the program.

This weekly workshop aims to prepare the ministry leader to:

  • Articulate the general outlines of a theology and spirituality of ministry in intercultural settings, with special attention to concepts of evangelization and inculturation.

  • Increase awareness regarding how to communicate appropriately and effectively with persons and groups in cultures other than your own.

  • Gain the ability to identify and articulate obstacles that impede group interaction.

  • Provide a rationale for the inclusion and integration of diverse cultural groups into the life and mission of your parish and diocese.

Attendees who attend all 4 weeks of the sessions will receive a certificate of completion.

Dealing with Modern Grief: Funeral Planning with the Unchurched

Online Workshop Presenter:

Beryl+S.jpg

Beryl Schewe, Director of Pastoral Care at Our Lady of Grace, Edina

Join speaker Beryl Schewe for an online presentation on handling the process of planning and executing a funeral with grieving family and friends who are unfamiliar with the Church.

This workshop will look at funeral ministry in the Church in light of the Coronavirus Pandemic.

THIS EVENT IS FREE BUT REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. REGISTER HERE.

From the Our Lady of Grace website:

Beryl is responsible for Pastoral Care, including working with families in grief, helping plan funerals, serving as the staff liaison for Grief Support, Separated and Divorced Support, homebound ministers, long-term care communion services, and Stephen Ministry.

Beryl is an articulate, curious and faith-filled woman.  She possesses a sense that there’s no such thing as a coincidence, and her life and work radiate gratitude.  If you sat down for coffee with Beryl you’d discover her life is filled with “God-shots,” events that transformed her life and direction, events she describes as “the heavy hand of the Holy Spirit.”

Beryl has a Religion degree from Duke University, an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia, a Masters of Divinity from St. John’s University, and is a board certified chaplain.  She completed her chaplain residency at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.  Beryl writes a “Spiritually Speaking” column for the Eden Prairie News, interviews prospective students for Duke, and is the author of the recently released book “Habits of Resilience.”

The Rite of Christian Initiation, like all sacraments, is the responsibility of all the People of God led by the many ministries of the local Church.
